CHOOSING BLADE TEETH

INSTRUCTIONS:

Find the cut width you want on the table at right. Inches are in the near column, and their equivalent tooth pitches for several metal shapes are shown in the three columns at right.

Squares, Rectangle, Flat Find your desired cut width. Look to the immediate right of this figure in the framed column topped by a square symbol. The fraction in that rectangle is the tooth pitch you need (the distance between the teeth). For instance, a 4" square takes a 3/4 pitch

Round Solids This time look from your desired cut width to the right in the framed column headed by a round symbol. Thus, a 1" bar is opposite the 5/7 rectangle-a 5/7 pitch.

Tubing, Pipes, Structurals For cutting a hollow or odd shape, determine its average cut width. Divide the area of the workpiece by the distance the saw blade must travel for a full cut. Find this figure in the inches column, and look to the aligned rectangle in the far right column - the one topped by the three shapes. That fraction is the pitch you want.
